At Droitwich Shutters, we fit shutters in all kinds of spaces throughout Worcestershire and the surrounding areas. Living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens and bay windows are all common requests, but every now and then we get the opportunity to work on something a little different.
Recently, we were asked to supply and fit shutters in a customer’s porch area. While porch shutters aren’t something we install every day, we were excited to take on the project – and we’re delighted with the results!

The porch windows before shutters
The porch featured large windows that allowed plenty of natural light into the space, but they also created a couple of challenges. During certain times of the day, direct sunlight could make the area uncomfortably bright, while the large glazed sections offered limited privacy from the outside.
How did shutters solve the problem?
To solve both issues, we installed full-height white shutters across the windows. The clean, crisp finish complements the property perfectly and gives the entrance area a much more polished and stylish appearance.
One of the biggest advantages of shutters is their flexibility. The adjustable louvres allow the homeowner to control exactly how much light enters the porch throughout the day, reducing glare and creating a more comfortable space without completely blocking out natural daylight.
Privacy was also greatly improved by the shutter installation. As the front entrance is one of the most visible areas of any home, having the ability to screen the interior from passers-by provides added much-needed privacy to the area. The shutters create a more private environment while still maintaining an attractive and welcoming appearance from outside. This is also a good way to add some security to a less-secure entry to your home.
There are practical benefits too. Porches can often be a source of heat loss, particularly when they feature large window areas that aren’t fully insulated or double glazed. Shutters add an extra layer of insulation at the window, helping to reduce heat transfer and improve energy efficiency. While they may not replace the need for good glazing, they can certainly help make the space feel warmer and more comfortable during colder months. Most importantly, our customer is absolutely delighted with the finished result. The shutters have transformed the look and functionality of the porch, providing greater privacy, better light control and improved insulation, all while adding a touch of timeless style.
