Saving money with a heat pump
By now, you’ve likely seen the new research by The Green Britain Foundation, which offers some insight into the actual cost of running your air ground source heat pump – and it’s not great. Sold as an eco-friendly, cost-saving home upgrade, heat pumps are being pushed by many as the new best thing for UK homeowners. They are brilliant. They do save money if your house is well-insulated, and they are very eco-friendly in comparison to gas central heating. But the figures for savings are oversold and many homeowners have been stuck with new, expensive systems that cost more than their previous central heating. You can read the research paper here.
So, how can you offset that cost?
Adding indoor shutters can improve heat retention, and therefore your heat pump efficiency
Spending yet more money to save in the long-run doesn’t always seem like a good idea, especially if you’re paying off a new heat pump. But, it’s worth looking at the numbers for yourself. By reducing some of your heat loss through windows and doors, the savings could be worth it for you. We’re always happy to discuss this with you – we can advise on materials and shutter types to suit your home and meet your energy-saving goals.
We know that shutters can save up to 28% of heat loss through windows thanks to some research in 2022.
Other window coverings will help, too, as will adding curtains in front of doors or improving your loft insulation. Anything you can do to increase efficiency in your house will help you save money on your heat pump running costs.
